About Ragging :
Ragging is a form of abuse on newcomers of educational institutions in Australia, Britain, India, Sri Lanka and in many other Commonwealth countries. It is similar to the American form, known as hazing, but is commonly much more severe - As per wikipedia : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ragging
Junior students are made to forcefully undergo extreme physical and mental torture all over the country in colleges which causes physical, psychological or physiological harm of apprehension or shame or embarrassment to a student and finally results into students committing suicide, students killed due to extreme physical torture, sexual abuse, students carrying the psychological scars for the rest of life and many others.
India’s only registered Anti Ragging NGO, Society Against Violence in Education (SAVE) has reported 31 reported deaths in the period 2000-2007.
A report from 2007 by the Indian anti-ragging group Coalition to Uproot Ragging from Education analyzed 64 ragging complaints, and found that over 60% of these were related to physical ragging, and 20% were sexual in nature.
